Probabilistic Heavy Snow and Icing Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 450 PM EDT Sun Apr 05 2020 Valid 00Z Mon Apr 06 2020 - 00Z Thu Apr 09 2020 ...California and Nevada... Days 1-3... A late season winter storm is expected to continue into midweek, with additional heavy snow accumulations expected across the mountains of central and Southern California. A cold upper low now centered off of the coast of Northern California is forecast to drop farther south, bringing heavy snows into the central and southern Sierra, as well as the higher elevations of the Transverse Ranges Sunday night and Monday. Meanwhile, favorable upper jet forcing interacting with moisture spreading east of the Sierra may produce some locally heavy totals over the central and southern Nevada mountains. Overall, the heavy snow threat is expected to diminish Monday into Tuesday, although some areas along the Transverse Ranges and the southern Nevada mountains could receive additional heavy totals. By late Tuesday and continuing into Wednesday - as the upper low begins to move inland across Southern California, the potential for heavy snows is expected to increase once again across the Transverse Ranges and southern Sierra, with locally heavy snows possible along the northern Peninsular Ranges as well. For the three day period ending 00Z Wednesday, WPC PWPF shows high probabilities for accumulations of two feet or more along portions of the southern Sierra, as well as the parts of the San Bernadino mountains. For Days 1-3, the probability of significant icing (0.25-inch or greater) is less than 10 percent. Pereira
