Probabilistic Heavy Snow and Icing Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 411 AM EDT Sat May 09 2020 Valid 12Z Sat May 09 2020 - 12Z Tue May 12 2020 ...Northern New England... Day 1... A late-season winter storm is expected to bring heavy snow to portions of northern Maine on Saturday. Low pressure tracking across southeastern Massachusetts will continue to deepen as it moves through the Gulf of Maine later this morning. Cold air in place north of the system will support snow across northern New Hampshire and Maine, with heavy amounts likely across portions of northern Maine. WPC PWPF indicates snow accumulations of 8-inches or more are likely across parts of eastern Aroostook County in Maine. Snows will likely diminish as the system tracks into the Canadian Maritimes this afternoon. ...Northern Plains/Upper Midwest... Day 1... Low pressure associated with an amplifying shortwave will continue to track southeast across North Dakota into southern Minnesota on Saturday. Sufficient cold air, along with low-to-mid level frontogenesis and strong upper forcing will support snow north of the low. WPC PWPF indicates accumulations of 2-inches or more are likely, with some potential for amounts of greater than 4-inches, across northeastern North Dakota Saturday morning into the afternoon. As the system continues to drop to the southeast, light accumulations could extend through central Minnesota into northern Wisconsin late Saturday into early Sunday. The probability of significant icing is less than 10 percent. Pereira
