Probabilistic Heavy Snow and Icing Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 429 AM EDT Wed Oct 28 2020 Valid 12Z Wed Oct 28 2020 - 12Z Sat Oct 31 2020 ...Southern High Plains... The system that has delivered winter weather impacts to large portions of the Rockies and Plains over the past several days is expected to finally eject eastward late Wednesday into Thursday -- bringing an end to the ongoing winter weather concerns across the southern High Plains. However before the system departs, wraparound moisture and cold air on the northwest side of the low is expected to support additional accumulating snows across northeastern New Mexico and the Texas Panhandle on Wednesday. While widespread heavy snow accumulations are not expected, areas along the northern New Mexico-Texas border into the northwestern Panhandle may see additional accumulations of 4-inches or more. In addition to snow, a wintry mix with minor ice accumulations is expected Wednesday morning across portions of western Oklahoma and western Kansas. ...Northeast... As it begins to interact with the northern stream, the previously noted upper low is forecast to transition to an open wave and accelerate eastward from the southern Plains early Thursday to the Mid-Atlantic coast by Friday morning. Moisture lifting to the north, interacting with cold high pressure over Canada and an associated low-to-mid level baroclinic zone, is expected to support a stripe of accumulating snows across portions of northern Pennsylvania, Upstate New York and central to northern New England Thursday night into Friday morning. The general trend of the models has been toward a more suppressed solution, with drier air maintaining its hold across northern New York and New England and in-turn lesser amounts across the area. However, impactful snow accumulations are still probable across parts of the region -- particularly across portions of the Catskills, Berkshires and southern Greens, where WPC PWPF shows high probabilities for accumulations of 2-4 inches by Friday morning.
