Probabilistic Heavy Snow and Icing Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 333 AM EST Sat Feb 05 2022 Valid 12Z Sat Feb 05 2022 - 12Z Tue Feb 08 2022 ...Northern Minnesota and Northern Great Lakes... Day 1... An Alberta Clipper will cross ND this morning and northern MN this afternoon before weakening as it crosses Lake Superior this evening. However, the continental airmass its working with and lack of upper dynamics to allow further surface development will limit snowfall over northern MN with rates generally half inch or less per hour. There will be some enhancement off Lake Superior (particularly now that the track is a bit more south) to allow up to 6" of snow to fall. Southerly flow ahead of the wave will result in a long duration fetch across Lake Michigan and will produce enhanced LES on the northern side of the lake across the eastern U.P. between Manistique and Mackinaw City late this afternoon and evening. WPC probabilities for over 6" remain moderately high and with snow fall rates likely exceeding 1"/hr at times this evening, localized 8" are possible. The probability of significant icing is less than 5 percent. Jackson
