High significant wave heights for coastal portions of the Alaska Panhandle and mainland Alaska, Sat-Sun, Dec 15-Dec 16. Detailed Summary: Alaska has a general upper level low and a couple of probably strong surface lows leading to hazards and potentially much below normal temps that I didn't put in because their threshold for anomalies is higher West will have rounds of precip and hazards because of two upper-level troughs coming in. Surf's up dude Northern Plains and Mississippi Valley will be much above average temperature-wise because there's general ridging I guess, but it depends on which model you look at. There is snow cover and there will be highs above freezing and lows below freezing so there could be issues with refreezing on roads and stuff. Winds in Rockies/High Plains bc of strong pressure gradient. Could be some winds earlier in the period but looks like the better chance is next Tues. In the East, heavy rainfall will be likely this weekend due to a surface low tracking through the Southeast and/or the Carolinas. There is uncertainty regarding the placement of the surface low. It is likely that the precipitation will be all rain through the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, but some snow and mixed precipitation is possible in the Northeast for the end of the week.
