US Day 3-7 Hazards Outlook NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 303 PM EDT Tue Apr 23 2019 Valid Friday April 26 2019 - Tuesday April 30 2019 Hazards: - Heavy rain across portions of the Central Plains and the Middle Mississippi Valley, Tue, Apr 30. - Heavy rain across portions of the Northeast, Sat, Apr 27. - Flooding possible across portions of the Southern Rockies, the Great Lakes, the Northeast, the Southern Plains, and the Upper Mississippi Valley. - Flooding occurring or imminent across portions of the Lower Mississippi Valley, the Northern Plains, the Tennessee Valley, the Northern Great Basin, the Middle Mississippi Valley, the Northeast, the Upper Mississippi Valley, the Great Lakes, and the Ohio Valley. - High winds across portions of the Aleutians, Mon, Apr 29. Detailed Summary: To start off the medium range period, the system currently impacting the Southern Plains will push eastward and bring rain to the southeast U.S. by Friday, but not enough to meet hazardous criteria. However, as the area of low pressure reaches the Northeast on Saturday, some strengthening is expected and could result in rain amounts to reach over an inch across northern Maine. The next system forecast to move across the northwestern U.S. Thursday and Friday should reach the Northern Plains by Saturday. Latest models indicate the possibility of wintry precipitation over the upper Midwest on Saturday and into Great Lakes region by Sunday. The amount of moisture associated with this system does not appear to be high enough to warrant a heavy precipitation area for now. Meanwhile, another upper-level trough should move across the northwestern U.S. this weekend. Some snow could accumulate in Montana on Sunday as a high pressure system from Canada could strengthen the upslope flow. But confidence is not high enough to specify a heavy snow area for this region at this time. As this system enters the Central Plains on Monday, it will follow along a stalled frontal boundary and have plentiful moisture streaming northward from the Gulf of Mexico. This could result in an area of heavy rain across portions of the Central Plains, stretching eastward into the Middle Mississippi Valley on Tuesday (Apr 30). Over Alaska, the only hazardous weather is expected to occur over the western Aleutians. A strong low pressure system is forecast to track over the islands on or around Monday (Apr 29) and bring high winds. Snell
