US Day 3-7 Hazards Outlook NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 313 PM EDT Mon Jun 24 2019 Valid Thursday June 27 2019 - Monday July 01 2019 Hazards: - Heavy rain across portions of northern Montana, Thu-Fri, Jun 27-Jun 28. - Severe weather across portions of the Northern Plains, Thu, Jun 27. - Flooding possible across portions of the Central Plains, the Middle Mississippi Valley, and the Southern Plains. - Flooding occurring or imminent across portions of the Central Plains, the Lower Mississippi Valley, the Tennessee Valley, the Middle Mississippi Valley, the Southern Plains, and the Ohio Valley. - Flooding likely across portions of the Central Plains and the Middle Mississippi Valley. Detailed Summary: The medium-range period will appear to be relatively quiet in terms of hazardous weather across the U.S. Although the upper-level pattern continues to favor a persistent trough over the western U.S., a ridge of high pressure that is forecast to strengthen over the central part of the country would limit the chance of heavy rain and thunderstorms over areas where rainfall amounts have been well above normal since this spring. Nevertheless, models have been indicating that an inverted trough/easterly wave would form underneath the building ridge and then moves from east to west across Florida and into the Gulf States. Rainfall amounts associated with this feature are not excessive thus far according to global models (with the heaviest being the Canadian model). Nevertheless, localized heavy rainfall cannot be ruled out should a surface low pressure center develops. Over the northern Plains, a low pressure system is forecast to develop on Thursday and linger into Saturday as the western U.S. upper trough edges closer toward this area. Heavy rain is possible Thursday into Friday to the north of the low pressure center over northern Montana, while thunderstorms could become severe farther to the east into northwestern North Dakota. Meanwhile, temperatures are forecast to be cold enough to support snow around the peaks of the Cascades Thursday and Friday. No hazardous weather is anticipated for Alaska through the medium-range period. Kong
