US Day 3-7 Hazards Outlook NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 311 PM EDT Wed Jul 24 2019 Valid Saturday July 27 2019 - Wednesday July 31 2019 Hazards: - Heavy rain across portions of the Central Plains, the Middle Mississippi Valley, the Great Lakes, the Ohio Valley, and the Upper Mississippi Valley, Sun-Mon, Jul 28-Jul 29. - Flooding occurring or imminent across portions of the Central Plains, the Lower Mississippi Valley, the Northern Plains, the Middle Mississippi Valley, the Upper Mississippi Valley, and the Great Lakes. - Excessive heat across portions of California and the Southwest, Sat-Sun, Jul 27-Jul 28. Detailed Summary: Saturday (July 27) through Wednesday (July 31) is forecast to be relatively quiet across the continental U.S. and Alaska, with the exception of a heat wave across the Desert Southwest and a corridor of potentially heavy rain across the Midwest states. An upper level ridge anchored over the Four Corners region this weekend will lead to above-average temperatures across the lower elevations of the Desert Southwest, with high temperatures reaching the low 110s, and low temperatures only dropping to around 90 degrees. A second area of excessive heat appears likely for the Central Valley of California with highs potentially reaching the 105 to 110 degree range in some areas. Otherwise, temperatures will be close to seasonal average or slightly above across the majority of the nation. Heavy rain will be possible from eastern Kansas to Lake Michigan later this weekend and into Monday. Several impulses of shortwave energy are expected to track along a cold front sinking southward across the Upper Midwest. Confidence is low regarding the exact placement of the heaviest rain, but still a high enough signal to place a highlighted area. By later in the forecast period, the potential appears too low to delineate any heavy rainfall areas at this time. Hamrick
