US Day 3-7 Hazards Outlook NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 323 PM EDT Thu Jul 25 2019 Valid Sunday July 28 2019 - Thursday August 01 2019 Hazards: - Heavy rain across portions of the Upper Midwest and the Upper Great Lakes, Sun, Jul 28. - Flooding occurring or imminent across portions of the Mississippi and Missouri River Basins. - Excessive heat across portions of California, Sun, Jul 28. Detailed Summary: The medium range period (Sunday, July 28 through Thursday, Aug 1) continues to be relatively quiet across the contiguous U.S. and Alaska. An upper level ridge anchored over the Four Corners region this weekend will lead to the potential for excessive heat, especially across much of Interior California and the lower elevations of the Southwest where daytime highs between 105 and 115 are forecast. An excessive heat area was drawn on today's medium range hazards chart for Sunday, July 28th across the Central Valley of California where the threat appears highest, and also where the local NWS forecast offices have already posted excessive heat watches valid through Sunday. Elsewhere, a front traversing through the northern tier states should present a threat for scattered showers and thunderstorms, with the best potential for at least locally heavy rainfall across parts of the Upper Midwest and Upper Great Lakes on Sunday, July 28. For continuity reasons, opted to maintain a heavy rain area across this region which is a slight northward shift from yesterday based on the latest model guidance. Santorelli
