US Day 3-7 Hazards Outlook NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 249 PM EDT Mon Aug 26 2019 Valid Thursday August 29 2019 - Monday September 02 2019 Hazards: - Heavy rain across portions of the central Plains, Thu-Fri, Aug 29-Aug 30. - Heavy rain along the Southeast U.S. coast, portions of the Carolina coasts, much of Florida, and along the central and eastern Gulf Coast, Sat-Mon, Aug 31-Sep 2. - Flooding possible across portions of the Central Plains, the Upper Mississippi Valley, and the Northern Plains. - Flooding occurring or imminent across portions of the Northern Plains. - Heavy rain across portions of southern Alaska, Sun-Mon, Sep 1-Sep 2. - Heavy rain across the central Aleutians, Sat, Aug 31. Detailed Summary: The upper-level pattern during the medium-range period across the U.S. will favor troughing over the eastern U.S. A reinforcing shot of cool air from Canada will spread across the northern Plains into the Great Lakes Thursday and Friday, followed by the Northeast and the Mid-Atlantic during the weekend. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to once again focus near a stationary front across the central Plains Thursday and Friday, where a threat of heavy rain is expected. Meanwhile in the tropical Atlantic, Tropical Storm Dorian is currently moving west-northwest toward the Lesser Antilles. The National Hurricane Center is predicting Dorian to eventually track north of the Greater Antilles through the latter part of this week, and toward Florida by the weekend. This would increase the chance of heavy rain across much of Florida by Saturday, and continue spreading north and west toward the Southeast U.S. and the eastern Gulf Coast Sunday and Monday. Since the exact track and intensity of Dorian remain rather uncertain at this point in time, it is much too early to specify an area of high wind threat for the Southeast U.S. for the weekend. Over the western U.S., an upper-level ridge should be in control through the latter part of this week before an upper-level trough approaches the Pacific Northwest by the weekend and into Monday. Dry heat is expected to prevail across the western U.S. before a cooling trend sets in with the approach of the upper-level trough. Temperatures are mainly within 10 degrees above normal across much of the western U.S. where no widespread excessive heat is anticipated. In Alaska, a significant occluded cyclone is expected to bring heavy rain into the central Aleutians on Saturday, spreading into the coastal sections of southern Alaska Sunday into next Monday. Some strong winds can be expected through the Aleutians into southern Alaska during this period but they are not expected to reach high winds criteria. Kong
