Detailed Summary: The medium range period (Monday-Friday) will mostly feature upper-level troughs in the western U.S. and upper-level ridging in the Southeast. The first system forecast to bring the threat of heavy rain will enter the Northern Plains by Monday and could bring 1 to 2 inches of rain from North Dakota to the Upper Great Lakes. This same area could see a second round of heavy rain as another system follows on Thursday. Total rainfall amounts around 2 to 4 inches are possible in the north-central U.S. between Monday and Friday, with locally higher amounts. The first system mentioned above is forecast to enter the Northeast on Wednesday and Thursday, but rainfall amounts appear too low to include a highlighted hazard area. Upper-level ridging over the southeastern U.S. will result in above normal temperatures across much of the Southeast and Tennessee Valley on Monday and Tuesday. The highest maximum temperature anomalies are expected to be around 10 to 15 degrees above normal. High temperatures across these areas will reach the upper 90s, with a few areas possibly reaching 100 degrees on Monday. Even though it will be hot, heat indices are forecast to remain below 105F due to relatively dry air and lower humidity. Meanwhile, due to the active weather pattern, portions of the Northwest, Northern Rockies, and Northern Plains could see high temperatures 10 to 20 degrees below normal. In Alaska, a pair of low pressure systems are forecast to enter the southeastern portions of the state by Wednesday. This will bring gusty winds and scattered showers to the Aleutian Islands, with heavier rain likely across southern mainland Alaska by Thursday and Friday. Rainfall totals could exceed 2 inches in 24 hours, prompting a heavy rain area on the hazards graphic. Snell
