US Day 3-7 Hazards Outlook NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 241 PM EDT Wed Oct 30 2019 Valid Saturday November 02 2019 - Wednesday November 06 2019 Hazards: - Flooding possible across portions of the Middle Mississippi Valley, the Great Lakes, and the Northern Plains. - Flooding occurring or imminent across portions of the Middle Mississippi Valley, the Upper Mississippi Valley, and the Northern Plains. - Much below normal temperatures from portions of the Central Rockies to the Southern/Central Plains, and Lower Mississippi Valley, Sat-Sun, Nov 2-Nov 3. - Heavy rain across portions of the Alaska Panhandle, Sat, Nov 2. Detailed Summary: The medium range period remains fairly quiet through especially the second half of the period. The only main hazard for the CONUS is associated with a surge of cold air into the Central U.S. this weekend bringing the threat for much below normal temperatures. Minimum temperature anomalies of 10 to 20 degrees would reach criteria for a hazard area, and should shift eastward with time on Saturday from the Central Rockies/Plains to mainly the Lower Mississippi Valley/Southern Plains by Sunday. After this, the airmass moderates a bit as it shifts into the eastern U.S. next week and temperature anomalies are not expected to reach criteria for an area on the hazard chart. In Alaska, strong onshore flow around a stationary frontal boundary will bring the threat for heavy rainfall to the Alaska Panhandle late this week and into this weekend. While most of the heavy rainfall is expected to fall before the medium range period begins (Sat, Nov 2), it may linger into Saturday and so a heavy rainfall area was maintained for southern portions of the Panhandle today. Elsewhere in Alaska, weather should be fairly quiet/below hazard criteria. Strong high pressure across northern/eastern parts of the state will bring a threat for below normal temperatures, but criteria meeting values may be confined to small portions of the southeast/Panhandle region and may be too limited to include on the hazards chart.
