US Day 3-7 Hazards Outlook NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 303 PM EDT Thu Oct 31 2019 Valid Sunday November 03 2019 - Thursday November 07 2019 Hazards: - Flooding possible across portions of the Middle Mississippi Valley, the Northeast, the Great Lakes, and the Northern Plains. - Flooding occurring or imminent across portions of the Middle Mississippi Valley, the Upper Mississippi Valley, and the Northern Plains. - Much below normal temperatures across portions of the Lower Mississippi Valley, Sun, Nov 3. - Much below normal temperatures across portions of the Northern Rockies, the Northern Plains, and the Upper Mississippi Valley, Wed-Thu, Nov 6-Nov 7. Detailed Summary: In terms of precipitation hazards across both the CONUS and Alaska, the medium range looks fairly quiet. A cold air mass sliding eastward from the Central U.S. during the short range, into the Midwest/Gulf Coast and eventually east during the medium range will moderate considerably and so a much below normal hazards area is not needed. The only exception is from far southeast Texas to southwest Mississippi on Sunday, Nov 3rd where minimum temperature anomalies of 10 to 15 degrees below normal may meet criteria for the hazards chart. And given this is the first cold snap of the season for this area, thought it was worthy of an area today. By Wednesday-Thursday next week, the next arctic air mass drops into the north-central U.S. and temperatures should be anomalously cool enough for a broad much below normal temperature area from the Northern Rockies/High Plains to the Upper Mississippi Valley valid Nov 6-7. The cold should shift south and eastward with time beyond the medium range period as well, and the Climate Prediction Center highlights this on the 8-14 hazards chart as well. Santorelli
