- Heavy precipitation across portions of the Alaska Panhandle and mainland Alaska, Sat-Sun, Dec 
7-Dec 8.
- High winds across portions of the Alaska Panhandle and mainland Alaska, Sat-Sun, Dec 7-Dec 8.
 
Detailed Summary:

The main hazard during the medium range period (Fri Dec 6 - Tue Dec 10) will be across much of 
northern and central California where another system entering the west at the end of this week will 
bring a round of heavy rain and mountain snows. The most likely impacted areas should be the 
coastal range of northern California/southwest Oregon, the Shasta mountains, and into the Sierra 
Nevada, with heavy rain possible down the coast towards the San Francisco Bay area. After this it 
quiets down a bit during the period before amplified troughing moves across the Midwest towards the 
end of the period. Moisture streaming north ahead of a cold front may bring a period of heavy rains 
to portions of the Southeast, the Mid-Atlantic and a possibility for enough cold air intrusion to 
produce a wintry mix within the heavy precipitation area over New England next Monday.

In Alaska, a strong low pressure system moving across the western Aleutians and into the Bering 
Sea, will drive a cold front eastward into the Gulf of Alaska where eventually a new low pressure 
system may form this weekend. Persistent southerly flow ahead of the front will result in a few 
days of heavy precipitation across the southern Alaskan coast and parts of the northern Panhandle, 
with one day totals of several inches possible. Heavy rain and strong winds can be expected along 
the coast, with heavy snow likely in the higher terrain. A period of strong winds may be possible 
as the low deepens near the Aleutians.
