US Day 3-7 Hazards Outlook NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 503 PM EDT Tue Jun 30 2020 Valid Friday July 03 2020 - Tuesday July 07 2020 Hazards: - Heavy rain across portions of the Northern Plains, Fri, Jul 3. - Flooding possible across portions of the Middle Mississippi Valley, the Great Lakes, the Ohio Valley, and the Upper Mississippi Valley. - Flooding occurring or imminent across portions of the Middle Mississippi Valley and the Northern Plains. - Flooding likely across portions of the Northern Rockies. - Excessive heat across portions of California and the Southwest, Sat-Tue, Jul 4-Jul 7. - Excessive heat across portions of the Southeast, the Lower Mississippi Valley, and the Southern Plains, Fri-Sat, Jul 3-Jul 4. - Much above normal temperatures across portions of the Great Lakes and the Upper Mississippi Valley, Fri-Sun, Jul 3-Jul 5. Detailed Summary: Excessive heat will be the main threat for parts of the U.S. throughout the medium range period (Fri July 3rd-Tuesday July 7th). An upper-level low will continue lifting into southwestern Canada on Friday. A shortwave will break off and drift eastward leading to the possibility of heavy rainfall for northern North Dakota on Friday. Elsewhere, the desert Southwest will experience excessive heat during July 4th weekend and extending into the next work week. An upper-level ridge extending from the Southern Plains north into the Upper Great Lakes coupled with high dewpoints due to moisture advection from the Gulf of Mexico will produce excessive heat over eastern Texas into much of Louisiana as well as much of the Florida Peninsula on Friday and Saturday July 3rd-4th. The ridging will also lead to much above normal temperatures over the Upper Great Lakes--from northern Minnesota across the Upper Peninsula and into northern Michigan.
