US Day 3-7 Hazards Outlook NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 406 PM EDT Thu Aug 06 2020 Valid Sunday August 09 2020 - Thursday August 13 2020 Hazards: - Severe weather across portions of the Northern/Central Plains, the Upper/Middle Mississippi Valley, and the Great Lakes, Sun, Aug 9. - Flooding occurring or imminent across portions of the Middle Mississippi Valley. Detailed Summary: The medium range period (Sunday, Aug. 9 to Thursday, Aug. 13) will feature just 1 sensible weather related hazard area. The Storm Prediction center issued a risk area for severe weather over the Northern/Central Plains and Upper Midwest on Sunday. This instability will be forced by a piece of shortwave energy that breaks off from an upper level low in central Canada. There's a signal for heavy rain in the deterministic models, but ensemble means are much more tempered with totals and given the small areal coverage of the potential 1 inch rainfall. Elsewhere, scattered rain and thunderstorms will spread across the Southeast during the medium range period, but do not meet heavy rain criteria at this time. A large upper-level low may produce rainfall for the Pacific Northwest next Wednesday and Thursday, but confidence is low on it reaching criteria. Below Average temperatures are expected for parts of the Northern Rockies/Plains behind a cold front that'll sweep through the region on Sunday. Temperatures will be between 10-15 degrees below average, but do not meet criteria for a Much Below Normal tag. In the Northeast, an approaching low pressure system will draw warm air northward and into the area on Monday and Tuesday, causing temperatures to be 10-15 degrees above average. Temperatures will hover around normal elsewhere. Potentially heavy rainfall will impact the Alaskan Panhandle on Sunday, with isolated areas of 1-2 inches of rain possible. This is not enough to warrant a heavy rain hazard, though. Another area of low pressure will migrate across the Aleautians toward mainland Alaska on Thursday and will produce rain for the that area. Rainfall is forecast to remain below criteria for a heavy rain area at this time but may change over the next few days. Kebede
