Detailed Summary: The medium range period (Thursday, October 8th - Monday, October 12th) will feature a land-falling hurricane along the Gulf coast and a warm-up over the central U.S.. Tropical Storm Delta is currently forecast to make landfall along the central Gulf of Mexico coast on Thursday. The track and intensity of this system is subject to change. It is then expected to weaken as it tracks across the Southeast and eventually into the Mid-Atlantic by Monday. Heavy rain will spread across those areas throughout the medium range period. Hurricane force winds are forecast to impact the central Gulf coast upon Delta's landfall on Thursday. Meanwhile, an amplifying upper-level trough will bring rain and snow to the Pacific Northwest this weekend. Temperatures will warm up out ahead of the deepening trough from the Northern/Central Plains on Thursday and into the Upper/Middle Mississippi Valley on Friday. Temperatures are forecast to be 15-20 degrees above average across these areas. There are no hazard areas for Alaska at this time, but heavy precipitation may impact the Gulf of Alaska coast from Thursday through Saturday, as an area of low pressure will swing down across the Aleutians on Thursday and draw Pacific moisture up to produce rain/snow across the area. The signal is not strong enough to warrant a heavy precipitation area over the Gulf coast at this time. Kebede
