US Day 3-7 Hazards Outlook NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 349 PM EDT Tue Oct 13 2020 Valid Friday October 16 2020 - Tuesday October 20 2020 Hazards: - Heavy rain across portions of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, Fri, Oct 16. - Heavy rain across portions of Maine, Sat, Oct 17. - Flooding possible across portions of the Southeast. - Flooding occurring or imminent across portions of the Lower Mississippi Valley. - Much below normal temperatures across portions of the Central Plains, the Upper Mississippi Valley, the Middle Mississippi Valley, the Northern Plains, and the Northern Rockies, Sun-Tue, Oct 18-Oct 20. - Heavy precipitation across portions of the Alaska Panhandle and mainland Alaska, Sun-Tue, Oct 18-Oct 20. Detailed Summary: A cold front and embedded surface low will move through the Northeast Fri-Sat. With southerly flow off the Atlantic from the subtropics, heavy rain is possible from the Mid-Atlantic into the Northeast. Rainfall on Friday of 1-3", especially over western New England, will eventually lift into Maine on Saturday before exiting with the front. Broad cyclonic flow over the CONUS Sun-Tue will generally limit rainfall and heavier precipitation, though this could increase over the Lower/Mid-Mississippi Valley ahead of another cold front. Confidence was too low to depict an area today. Northwest flow out of Canada will bring in much colder temperatures to the High Plains Sunday toward the Corn Belt/Upper Midwest Mon/Tue. Temperatures may be 10-25 degrees below normal, perhaps approaching record lows in some areas. This could be the coldest temperature of the season so far for many. High temperatures may stay below freezing over areas of Montana and perhaps into the Dakotas. Over Alaska, an area of low pressure will lift into the Gulf of Alaska late Sunday, spreading rain and mountain snow ahead of the warm front across coastal Southcentral to the Panhandle. Uncertainty remains in how far north the heavier precipitation may get, based on the expected track/strength of the system. In addition, low pressure may linger in the Gulf or be reinforced from the west, carrying a rainfall threat into next Tuesday. Hihg pressure slipping through the Yukon may promote a chilly day for the Panhandle on Saturday with easterly flow, but that should be short-lived as the system from the west approaches. Fracasso
