US Day 3-7 Hazards Outlook NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 331 PM EDT Tue Oct 27 2020 Valid Friday October 30 2020 - Tuesday November 03 2020 Hazards: - Heavy precipitation across portions of the Mid-Atlantic, the Northeast, and the Great Lakes, Fri, Oct 30. - Much below normal temperatures across portions of the Southern Rockies, and the Southern Plains, Fri, Oct 30. - Heavy precipitation across portions of the Alaska Panhandle and mainland Alaska, Fri-Sun, Oct 30-Nov 1. Detailed Summary: Post Tropical Cyclone ZETA and an area of low pressure moves off the Mid-Atlantic Coast late Thursday and are off the coast on Friday. The low pressure will pull sufficient cold air out of Canada to interact with the tropical moisture from ZETA to produce an area of heavy precipitation over the Northeast on Friday. The air should be cold enough to produce snow over the area and rain near the coast. Leaves on trees may add an additional hazard of broken branches and downed power lines associated with the snow. In the wake of the storms, high pressure will build over the East Coast on Saturday. Low pressure over Southwestern Canada will move eastward across Southern Canada dragging a front across the Upper Midwest on Saturday moving into the Great Lakes by Sunday and off the East Coast on Monday. High pressure will build over the Western U. S. on Saturday moving to the Rockies and Plains by Sunday and advancing to the Southeast by Tuesday. Meanwhile, cold temperatures over the Southern Rockies/Plains will begin to moderate after Thursday but the morning low temperatures over parts of the area will continue to be 12 degrees below normal on Friday morning. For Alaska, low pressure over the Gulf of Alaska, on Friday, moving into the Alaska Panhandle by Saturday. The system will be accompanied by moisture that will, likewise, move into the Panhandle.
