A Severe drought is forecast to continue across much of the West and parts of the Northeast. An upper-level trough that will track across Canada this weekend is expected to generate rain and mixed precipitation over parts of the Lower Great Lakes and Northeast, but amounts are unlikely to be hazardous. Potentially heavy precipitation could impact the Pacific Northwest next week as a low pressure system emerges from the Alaskan Panhandle, but a hazard area is not warranted at this time. The aforementioned low pressure system is forecast to produce heavy precipitation over the Alaskan Panhandle this weekend before spreading moisture down the North American coast into the beginning of next week. High pressure will build over mainland Alaska behind the previous system. This cold air mass will plunge temperatures to over 20 degrees below normal from Saturday through Tuesday. Kebede
