US Day 3-7 Hazards Outlook NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 239 PM EST Mon Nov 30 2020 Valid Thursday December 03 2020 - Monday December 07 2020 Hazards: - Heavy precipitation across portions of the Alaska Panhandle and mainland Alaska, Sun-Mon, Dec 6-Dec 7. - High winds across portions of the Alaska Panhandle and mainland Alaska, Sun-Mon, Dec 6-Dec 7. Detailed Summary: A very quiet medium range period (Thursday, Dec 3rd - Monday, Dec 7th) is in store for the CONUS. Deep upper-level troughing over the Plains and ridging in the West will allow anomalously cold air to filter down the lee of the Rockies and into the Southern Plains on Thursday. High temperatures are likely to be in the 30s and 40s over that region on Thursday. This will be a 20-25 degree departure from normal for much of New Mexico and into southwest Texas. A much below normal temperature area was not issued for this region since this cold air is not expected to be hazardous. Cold air will shift south and east on Friday as the Northern Plains warm up ahead of a cold front passage on Saturday. A low pressure system over the Gulf of Mexico will track up the East Coast on Saturday. It will produce some rain and snow for parts of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic between Saturday and Monday as a result. Some precipitation may be heavy at times, but model guidance doesn't suggest a strong enough system to support hazardous amounts at this time. Quiet will return to most of the CONUS at the end of the period, next Monday. In Alaska, a deep area of low pressure will generate hazardous winds and precipitation for much of the southeastern coast next Sunday and Monday. The low pressure system will move south of the Aleutians next Sunday before arriving along the southern coast/Gulf of Alaska on Monday. Pacific moisture will overspread a surface boundary and produce heavy precipitation beginning Sunday and continuing into Monday. As the surface low approaches, the pressure gradient will tighten and high winds will impact the southeast Alaskan coast on Sunday and Monday as a result. Kebede
