Significant coastal flooding and beach erosion is also possible. Hazardous travel conditions are likely in parts of the region. Please continue to monitor for future updates as this system develops. ...Discussion... A cold front moving off the East Coast will usher in cold air associated with high-pressure buildings over the Midwest on Friday and Saturday. As a result, the temperatures will be below average over the Midwest; therefore, a Much Below Normal Temperatures area is on the Hazards Chart on Friday and Saturday. Low temperatures will be in the single and double digits below zero over the Upper Midwest on Friday morning and the temperatures will begin to moderate on Saturday. However, the cold air will move east into most of the eastern third of the country. Likewise, an area of Much Below Normal Temperatures is also over the area from Friday to Sunday. Low temperatures will range from the single digits below zero over the Northeast to the mid-twenties over the Florida Panhandle. Furthermore, a rapidly deepening area of low pressure will develop off the Carolina Coast and move northward to off the New England Coast on Saturday. The developing storm will produce several hazards across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic from Friday into Sunday. High winds will impact the Northeast to the Carolinas on Friday through Sunday. In addition, the storm will produce an area of Heavy Snow from parts of the Mid-Atlantic to the Northeast on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, significant waves will impact the Northeast Coast, producing beach erosion and coastal flooding. Meanwhile, low pressure over the Great Lakes will produce light snow over the Upper Great Lakes into parts of the Ohio Valley on Saturday and Sunday. In addition, front moving onshore over the West Coast will produce rain and higher elevation snow over the Northwest and snow over parts of the Northern Rockies and Northern Intermountain Region from late Sunday into Tuesday. ...Alaska... An area of deep low pressure over the Gulf of Alaska will slowly move southeastward into Western Canada by Monday. The storm will stream moisture into the Kenal peninsula to the Alaska Panhandle, producing an area of heavy precipitation over the region on Friday into Saturday. Also, the storm will produce an area of High Winds from the Panhandle to the Prince William Sound on Friday. Furthermore, an area of low pressure will slowly move eastward along the Aleutians, which will produce areas of wind and precipitation over the Aleutians from Saturday into Monday, with a new area of low pressure to impact the region on Tuesday.
