Alaska Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 205 PM EST Sat Feb 03 2018 Valid 12Z Wed Feb 07 2018 - 12Z Sun Feb 11 2018 Models continue to dance around the mostly agreeable but washed out ensemble means with only modestly robust systems forecast later next week into the weekend. Latest GFS/ECMWF were close enough to the ensemble means to use a blend of that guidance cluster as a starting point, which maintained decent continuity. Axis of upper ridging should mostly stay strewn across the interior from southeast to northwest, keeping any system over the Aleutians or through the Gulf in a weakened state. Dry period for most of the interior as precipitation will focus along the southern coast especially into the Panhandle with the lead system Wednesday (heaviest over the southern Panhandle). Rain may then be heavy over the eastern Aleutians with the second system (including south-facing upslope-favored regions on the AkPen and Kodiak) Wed-Fri and whatever is left of it by Saturday. By then, yet another system is forecast to lift north/northeastward of the central Pacific toward the Aleutians. Fracasso
