Alaska Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 241 PM EDT Mon Apr 02 2018 Valid 12Z Fri Apr 06 2018 - 12Z Tue Apr 10 2018 ...Pattern Highlights/Threats and Guidance/Uncertainty Assessment... A well organized closed low will retrograde westward over southern Alaska over the next few days and reach the Bering Sea by Thursday. There is lingering potential for locally enhanced western and southwestern Alaska snow into Friday. Energy and modestly unsettled conditions are expected to split both into the western Bering Sea and back into the Alaskan interior over the weekend. Well underneath, deepened north Pacific storms will track near the Aleutians Friday-Saturday and again Sunday-Tuesday along with some enhanced winds/waves and precipitation in a pattern with subsequent storm tracks southeastward to well offshore over the western then southern Gulf of Alaska. Otherwise, expect a relatively benign threat pattern for the rest of Alaska in mainly nondiscript flow. The WPC Alaskan medium range product suite was mainly derived from a composite blend of reasonably compatable/clustered GFS/ECMWF and GEFS/NAEFS/ECMWF ensemble means days 4-8. Leaned weighting a bit more on ensembles with time amid growing forecast spread to best maintain WPC forecast continuity. Schichtel
