Alaska Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 310 PM EDT Thu Apr 12 2018 Valid 12Z Mon Apr 16 2018 - 12Z Fri Apr 20 2018 Upper pattern across Alaska remains fairly predictable as an upper high drifts northwestward into the Beaufort and then Arctic Ocean. This will first kill a lead system lifting northward through the Bering on Monday as it sends a wave along its front eastward toward the Gulf but ultimately slipping southeastward. Multi-model consensus served as a good starting point (12Z GFS and 00Z ECMWF/UKMET/Canadian). By midweek, as the upper high moves north of 75N, an upper low over Banks Island may try to slide westward underneath the high across the North Slope (00Z GFS was most aggressive with that solution). Opted to rely on the ensembles, 00Z Canadian, and 12Z GFS which keep most of the height falls across the Yukon with some into northeastern/eastern Alaska. To the south, maintained a steady progression of the front across the Gulf mostly in line with the forecast from 24 hrs ago. This front may reach the Panhandle by next Friday or so with another system (though weak) approaching the Aleutians from the southwest. Fracasso
