Alaska Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 402 PM EDT Fri Aug 17 2018 Valid 12Z Tue Aug 21 2018 - 12Z Sat Aug 25 2018 Models show better than average agreement on the synoptic pattern evolution affecting Alaska through the end of next week. An occluded cyclone rapidly approaching the south coast of Alaska Tuesday will weaken rapidly as it moves across the inland high terrain on Wednesday. This will be followed by the next cyclone moving eastward across the Bering Sea and making landfall across southwest Alaska toward the end of next week. A general model consensus should yield a good starting point for finer adjustments. Therefore, the WPC Alaskan grid package was derived using 55% 00Z ECMWF mixing in with the 12Z GFS and 06Z GEFS. This blend was then progressively weighted toward the 00Z EC mean and 06Z GEFS mean consensus for the longer range time frame.
