Alaska Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 303 PM EST Mon Nov 19 2018 Valid 12Z Fri Nov 23 2018 - 12Z Tue Nov 27 2018 A couple of Aleutian lows will appear to be the dominant synoptic features affecting Alaska during the medium range period through next Tuesday. A blend of the 00Z EC mean with the 00Z NAEFS provides a good starting point for the WPC Alaska grid fields, which show good continuity from yesterday's package. Some deterministic 00Z ECMWF and 12Z GFS solutions are incorporated as well. A weakening occluded low approaching the Aleutian Islands on Friday should dissipate quickly, giving way to another occluded low arriving on Sunday. This cyclone appears to be more energetic than its predecessor and is forecast to split into two centers as it approaches southwestern Alaska early next week. Expect stormy conditions to prevail from the Aleutian into southwest Alaska through the Thanksgiving weekend into early next week. Meanwhile, interior Alaska should remain dry through the medium range period.
