Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 806 AM EDT Sat Aug 16 2014 Valid 00Z Sun Aug 17 2014 - 00Z Sun Aug 24 2014 The islands will be under the gradient in the southwestern periphery of eastern Pacific high pressure, yielding moderate trades on average with slight fluctuations on the stronger or weaker side at times. At least through Wed precipitable water values are forecast to be within a tenth of an inch of 1.25 inches at most locations. Thus generally windward focused rainfall should be mostly light through midweek, though a weakness aloft moving westward across the islands Mon-Wed could offer modest enhancement. Current guidance indicates any tropical development should remain well south and east of the state, and to a greater extent than the 00z CMC. However with differing timing GFS/ECMWF runs agree upon the potential for a pocket of greater deep moisture extending northward from the tropics to cross the region around Thu-Fri, so a period of locally heavier activity is possible at that time.
