Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 724 AM EST Sat Feb 28 2015 Valid 00Z Sun Mar 01 2015 - 00Z Sun Mar 08 2015 ...Prolifically Wet Pattern... The models continue to indicate that a frontal zone and upper trough will waffle across the Hawai'ian islands for the next week, bringing soaking showers and squalls. With time, the GFS and ECMWF show the orientation of the system to transition from meridional to zonal, affording greater distribution of precipitation across the state via orographics. The GFS QPF for the five-day period ending 00Z/06 Friday is over a foot on Mauna Loa, with more rainfall thereafter statewide. The ECMWF QPF is more evenly distributed for the first five days of the forecast period, with more of an emphasis on the eastern parts of the island chain. The ECMWF also continues rainfall into next weekend--again, emphasizing the eastern portion of the islands. Cisco
