Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 816 AM EDT Sat Aug 08 2015 Valid 00Z Sun Aug 09 2015 - 00Z Sun Aug 16 2015 Last of the remnants of Guillermo will move away from the region today before a bit of clearing Sunday into Monday. Generally light/scattered showers are expected. Next week, current hurricane Hilda is forecast by the CPHC to move northwestward toward a point about 150 miles northeast of the Big Island. This represents a blend of the ECMWF and GFS forecasts, which keeps most of the moisture in the then likely much weakened system to the northeast of the island chain. A change to this forecast will result in modifications to the forecast. Nevertheless, an increase in moisture is almost assured, with the ensembles showing a rise in PW values in step with the deterministic GFS and ECMWF. See no reason to deviate much from a blend of the two models for next Thu-Sat which will likely keep moisture around the island chain and precipitation chances high. Fracasso
