Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 818 AM EDT Sun Aug 23 2015 Valid 00Z Mon Aug 24 2015 - 00Z Mon Aug 31 2015 Hawai'i appears stuck in an unsettled regime for the remainder of the month. The islands are progged to remain near the interface of the polar westerlies and the tropical easterlies, with the combination of deep-layer moisture and dynamics wringing out a steady supply of showers. At this point, Kilo does not appear a direct threat, but enhanced tropical moisture to the right of its track will be a factor in rainfall amounts. By the end of the period, the westerlies look as if they will gain ground for a time. The ECMWF depiction of yet another tropical cyclone approaching from the southeast next weekend is what is loaded in the easterlies. Five-day QPF through 00Z/29 Saturday is one to three inches statewide, with a focus over the terrain. Mauna Loa appears particularly vulnerable, with the GFS still pegging the peak with over a foot of rain. Cisco
