Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 806 AM EDT Mon Oct 19 2015 Valid 00Z Tue Oct 20 2015 - 00Z Tue Oct 27 2015 Upper ridging is forecast to center just west of the Dateline and off California, leaving a weakness near and just to the east of Hawai'i. A surface high will slide eastward between 35-40N this week, maintaining trades for several days. Generally light windward showers are expected per the models/ensembles as precipitable water values rise and fall a few tenths of an inch this week. The National Hurricane Center continues to monitor Hurricane Olaf well to the southeast of the islands. The forecast takes this system past 145W in five days, which is a bit farther west than yesterday and continues its trend westward. It is still likely to turn northward by Friday and then northeastward this weekend away from Hawai'i. However, the ECMWF ensembles have continued to lie on the west side of the ensemble spread and has several members that bring Olaf or its remnants west of 155W.
