Models and ensembles remain in relatively good agreement on the
pattern in the central Pacific over the next week. Precipitable
water values are forecast to rise today as the upper high drifts
westward just north of the state and a front approaches from the
northeast. Stronger upper ridging is forecast to build between
40-50N near the Aleutians this weekend, reflected as a 1040mb
surface high along 40N. Trades will be on the breezy side and with
PW values between 1.25-1.50 inches, windward showers should be
common. Recent GFS/ECMWF runs offer reasonable solutions, as do
their ensemble means. Biggest difference lies in how much heights
may lower to near 585dm by next Wednesday -- the ECMWF ensembles
are more aggressive than the GEFS members.
