The 5/00Z forecast cycle seemed to be in-line with the current
Hawai'i forecasts. 

Broad area of high pressure --- centered near 40N 150W --- should
maintain a moderate trade wind flow for much of this medium range
forecast period (day 3-7).

Through day 2...the only synoptic-scale feature depicted to be
near the forecast area --- is a cutoff low --- currently centered
near 20N and the Dateline. The deterministic 5/00Z GFS/ECMWF have
some commonality with this feature through 36 hours --- projecting
a slow drift to the north ---then an interaction with a
mid-latitude trough passing west-to-east along its northern
flanks. The ensemble means (ECENS/GEFS) would suggest the feature
gradually weakens and drifts westward --- and for several days
---meanders in the central Pacific.
