Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 718 AM EST Sat Nov 21 2015 Valid 00Z Sun Nov 22 2015 - 00Z Sun Nov 29 2015 Wet pattern for the 50th state will continue through early next week. Stationary boundary located to the northwest of the islands today is forecast to slowly sink southeastward through most of the island chain, perhaps stalling between the Big Island and Maui or thereabouts. Winds will veer around the surface wind boundary from southeasterly to southerly to westerly and northwesterly. This will continue to support elevated precipitable water values pooling to around 1.50-2.00 inches or about +1.5 to +3.0 sigma through Wednesday. This would fuel some heavier to locally excessive pre-frontal and frontal rains, as enhanced by terrain lift. By about Thursday, the ensembles indicate that the pattern will break as the mid-level trough pulls northeastward and ridging from the west builds eastward into next weekend, which will resume the typical trades.
