Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 719 AM EST Sat Jan 02 2016 Valid 00Z Sun Jan 03 2016 - 00Z Sun Jan 10 2016 Models and ensembles agree that an active and progressive Pacific storm track holds the bulk of energy north of Hawaii for the first week of 2016. However, the flow will periodically and increasingly effect the Hawaiian Islands underneath in a pattern with gradually lowering heights. Weak frontal showers lingering over the southern islands today will give way to a period of mainly dry conditions between systems in weak trade flow. A favored guidance composite solution suggests a stalling front early-mid next week may linger along/just north of the state prior to another frontal approach heading into next weekend. These modest shower and moisture focusing features are supported as a series of low systems pass to the north in the energetic/slowly amplifying mid-latitude based flow. The late week front may have more surge into the state by next weekend in amplifying supporting flow. Schichtel
