Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 724 AM EST Tue Feb 09 2016 Valid 00Z Wed Feb 10 2016 - 00Z Wed Feb 17 2016 A cold front/shear line is expected to move east of the main islands late today/early Wednesday. Another system in the Westerlies is expected to allow for a cold front/shear line passage Tuesday next week. Expect a mainly dry and light Hawaiian flow pattern through Thursday before the trade winds freshen. By Sunday, the trades relax again as the next front approaches. Other than the usual trade wind-induces showers, widespread rain should be hard to come by as the precipitable water values in the region struggle to make it much past 1" with each surface boundary passage. A compromise of the 00z ECMWF/06z GFS guidance is preferred overall -- the 00z Canadian with its slow closed/possible Kona cyclone (one of its usual biases in the Westerlies) was not preferred. Roth
