Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 829 AM EDT Thu Mar 31 2016 Valid 00Z Fri Apr 01 2016 - 00Z Fri Apr 08 2016 A favored composite of compatible guidance indicates that a weakening front with some pooled moisture and showers stalls near the Big Island over the next couple of days in a light wind pattern. The subtropical high will then pass well north of the islands as a more typical trade pattern sets in from the weekend into Monday with limited showery activities on the windward side of the islands. The next cold front will approach Hawaii on Tuesday. Models are in excellent agreement that the front will move across the main islands on Wednesday and Thursday. The ECMWF members show a deeper mid-upper level trough associated with the front and a stronger surface low as compared with the faster and more open wave solution from the GFS members. Recent model performances led us to prefer a more amplified solutions. But it does not appear to affect the timing of the arrival of the front. Schichtel/Kong
