Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 809 AM EDT Fri May 13 2016 Valid 00Z Sat May 14 2016 - 00Z Sat May 21 2016 Moisture axis will gradually lift northward from the Big Island through the rest of the islands this weekend. Generally light to moderate showers are expected with local enhancements given rather high precipitable water values between 1.50-1.75 inches. Those values will fall back to between 1.25-1.50 inches early next week as surface high pressure strengthens to the northeast of the state, bringing in a bit stronger trades. Ensembles show an upper low swinging through 38N/175W Wednesday and a downstream upper high near 35N/145W, leaving Hawai'i in a relative weakness. Surface front associated with the upper low to the northwest will push southeastward but should remain northwest of the state through Friday. 00Z ECMWF lies on the far east side of the ensemble spread but the 00Z GFS was closer to the ensemble means, which is preferred.
