The Subtropical Ridge covering the majority of the eastern Pacific
will weaken some over the weekend (by 10-12 millibars) --- in
response to a vertically-stacked low in the Gulf of Alaska.
However, the low is expected to weaken early next week ---
allowing the Subtropical Ridge to rebuild across the central
Pacific.

No major changes in the 22/00Z guidance to speak of in the
Subtropics. Over the the mid-latitude north Pacific, models are
slightly different in handling secondary shortwave energy
(on/after 27/12z) that transfers from the southern Bering Sea to
the Gulf of Alaska.  The 22/00Z GFS/ECMWF deterministic runs found
a middle ground with this shortwave --- but the details of the
shortwave's influence downstream are faster solutions than their
corresponding means (beyond day 7).
