Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 820 AM EDT Sun Jul 24 2016 Valid 00Z Mon Jul 25 2016 - 00Z Mon Aug 01 2016 Tropical Storm Darby is now centered just west of the Big Island and is forecast by the Central Pacific Hurricane Center (CPHC) to continue tracking along/just south the islands. Tropical storm warnings and flash flood watches are in effect over the state. Darby has an analog perhaps closest to but slightly more northward shifted track than Iselle 2014 that produced over 15" of rain over favored windward terrain of the Big Island. Please refer to the latest products and warnings/advisories from CPHC and WFO Honolulu for this dangerous storm. Expect a return to a moderate to locally brisk trade pattern midweek into next weekend in the wake of Darby as high pressure becomes established NNE of the islands. Showers would be mainly confined to favored windward terrain fueled in part by slowly decaying moisture associated with the heavy rainfall earlier via Darby. Schichtel
