Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 830 AM EDT Sat Sep 03 2016 Valid 00Z Sun Sep 04 2016 - 00Z Sun Sep 11 2016 ...Major Hurricane Lester approaching the Hawaiian islands... Satellite imagery shows a tightly compact Hurricane Lester just upstream of the Hawaiian Islands. The Central Pacific Hurricane Center has hurricane watches in effect the islands consistent with a forecast track this weekend just to the north of state. Despite the bulk of the 2 inch plus precipitatble water values mainly concentrating around Lester, on Sunday and Monday the tail plume of higher moisture swings east to west across the state to support an increased rainfall threat. Stay tuned to the CPHC and WFO Honolulu for updated info on Hurricane Lester. The pattern returns to more typical flow regime in the wake of Lester highlighted by a building upper/surface ridge NNE of the islands and moderate mean trades. However, a possible upper-level weakness arriving by midweek could could result in an increase in windward showers into late next week. Schichtel
