Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 819 AM EDT Sat Oct 08 2016 Valid 00Z Sun Oct 09 2016 - 00Z Sun Oct 16 2016 While an active storm track remains well to the north across the mid-latitudes, upper ridging will continue to dominate the pattern for the Hawai`ian island chain. A building 594-dm ridge should set up west of the International Dateline with gradual eastward expansion in time. At the surface, a west-east oriented surface high sets up north/northwest of the state with a gradual increase in the pressure gradient leading to enhancement of the climatological trade winds. As such, there should be an uptick in the shower activity, particularly over the favored upslope terrain and along local mesoscale boundaries. The limiting factor is the lower amount of tropospheric moisture per forecast precipitable water values. Rubin-Oster
