Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 747 AM EDT Sun Oct 09 2016 Valid 00Z Mon Oct 10 2016 - 00Z Mon Oct 17 2016 No significant changes to the weather pattern affecting the Hawai`ian island chain the next 7 days. The mid-latitudes will continue to feature numerous progressive shortwaves with none of these systems impacting the state through next weekend. Models continue to advertise an expanding 594-dm mid-level ridge centered over the International Dateline which will be the dominant feature to hone in on. At the surface, a gradual increase in the anticyclone strength will enhance the pressure gradient across the region which favors an increase in the climatological trade winds. Many solutions favor sustained low-level winds up to 20 knots with locally higher gusts. This will be accompanied by a slight uptick in shower activity although the coverage should be somewhat limited by the lower end moisture content available per forecast precipitable water values. The best focus should be across regions of upslope flow and local mesoscale convergence boundaries. Rubin-Oster
