Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 811 AM EDT Wed Nov 02 2016 Valid 00Z Thu Nov 03 2016 - 00Z Thu Nov 10 2016 The prevailing flow over the Central Pacific favors various levels of subsidence and dry conditions followed by periodic but mainly dry cold frontal passages over the islands for the next week. The longwave pattern shown by the agreed upon consensus is for a retrograding upper trough over the Gulf of Alaska. Reinforcement of the trough should allow for a cold front to move near the islands and dissipate by Friday, while more substantial cold fronts pass through the islands next Monday and Thursday. The widespread antecedent subsidence before the cold fronts arrive combined with their rapid approach support mainly dry conditions for the next week. Accompanying the fronts will be varying wind speeds and wind directions. James
