Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 700 AM EST Wed Dec 21 2016 Valid 00Z Thu Dec 22 2016 - 00Z Thu Dec 29 2016 Latest guidance maintains good continuity and agreement for the upcoming week's forecast. Two mid-latitude surface highs will support trades through the period. The first high will track north of the islands along 40N around Thursday and then weaken as it tracks southeastward. The second, behind a front that approaches but does not reach the islands Friday-Saturday, should track a few degrees of latitude farther south than the first high. As a result trades will likely be stronger early next week. Trades may be a little less brisk by Wednesday as the high continues eastward. Expect most shower activity to be light to locally moderate and terrain-focused. Precipitable water values should start the period in the 1.25-1.50 inch range and gradually decline closer to one inch for late Sunday onward, perhaps slightly higher at times over the Big Island.
