Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 726 AM EST Mon Jan 15 2018 Valid 00Z Tue Jan 16 2018 - 00Z Tue Jan 23 2018 An upper ridge north of the state will slide eastward over time this week and generally allow surface high pressure to be in control across Hawaii. Initially a decent compact low pressure system north of the state will remain north, pull away and perhaps allow a frontal zone to drop south toward or through the islands. Very little in shower activity is anticipated with this frontal zone and this allows the surface ridge to build in. Expect brisk low-level east to east-northeast trades to resume and most of the deepest tropical moisture remaining suppressed to the south. Finally by the weekend, the upper ridge fills some and the flow becomes relatively light. This should allow a surge in tropical moisture with above 1 inch PWs to creep north, which may allow some more widespread instability showers. Musher
