Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 729 AM EST Wed Jan 17 2018 Valid 00Z Thu Jan 18 2018 - 00Z Thu Jan 25 2018 Upper ridging will continue through most of the forecast period over Hawai'i--with a trough sliding northward over the region by the end of the week. This trough could bring the tail end of a front to the northern islands by Sunday. Ahead of this front, expect an increase in showers beginning on Friday onward into Sunday. By next week, another trough will dig northwest of Hawai'i--with deterministic GFS/ECMWF showing an upper low still centered below 40N near 170W by Wednesday morning. However, the 06Z GFS seems much more aggressive with this upper low and slower with the associated front--which seems to be the outlier solution. Expect generally light showers ahead of this system as trade winds prevail. Reinhart
