Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 722 AM EST Sat Feb 24 2018 Valid 00Z Sun Feb 25 2018 - 00Z Sun Mar 4 2018 Satellite imagery and local radars show an active weather pattern ongoing across Hawaii with the heaviest activity currently concentrated south and east of the big island in an axis of deepened tropical moisture. The models and ensembles are in decent agreement on the synoptic scale pattern over the Hawaii domain through next week. A hint of an omega block flow pattern over the central Pacific is indicated in the guidance, with the main ridge axis situated generally near 150W with upper level troughs to the southwest and southeast of the upper level high. The upper level low currently northwest of the Islands is forecast to slowly drift northward over the next few days, followed by another upper low in the same general area by the end of the forecast period. This may once again advect the deepest precipitable water axis westward next week, perhaps west of Kauai. Trades should meanwhile build through next week as a strong surface high pressure northeast of the state over the eastern Pacific. No cold fronts are expected to approach the Islands over the next 7 days. Hamrick
