Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 814 AM EDT Fri Aug 10 2018 Valid 00Z Sat Aug 11 2018 - 00Z Sat Aug 18 2018 As of the latest advisory issued by the Central Pacific Hurricane Center, Hurricane Hector was located approximately 540 miles west-southwest of Honolulu, and moving west at 16 mph. The plume of deep moisture associated with the system should begin to shift west of Hawaii by early Saturday. Until then, scattered showers with locally heavy rainfall will remain a possibility. In the wake of Hector, expect a resumption of moderate to fresh trades into next week, with drier air also spreading across the state, as surface high pressure covers much of the north-central and northeastern Pacific. Models show good agreement on a mid/upper-level weakness traversing the easterlies in the vicinity of Hawaii by the early to middle part of next week, with an associated increase in moisture. Thus, expect a slight increase in shower activity by that time, largely but not exclusively focused in favored windward locations. Ryan
